I volunteered with Best Buddies Canada during university, and it remains one of my favorite organizations. Best Buddies is a nonprofit that creates opportunities for friendships between people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities.
When I heard they were launching their first Friendship Walk in Canada, I was excited to get involved again. From April to October, I got to help organize the Vancouver walk alongside an awesome group of volunteers and the Best Buddies team. The event was held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at UBC. It was a free, community-focused festival of friendship designed to raise awareness and support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The day included a walk, live music, food, and performances, all centered around promoting inclusion, acceptance, and meaningful connection.
It was encouraging to see so many people show up, not just the participants, but also the businesses and other organizations that offered their support with offers and activities. I hope to take part again in the coming years and see the event continue to grow!
